Life as I know it (part one)

PREFACE: This is our life, our reality. I'm not looking for attention or sympathy. I am simply sharing our life in the instance someone can relate. Writing is therapeutic and since I'm a wife and mother this is what I will be writing about. Our life is no better or worse than anyone else's. Its our life and we deal with our issues in our own ways. So roll your eyes, cry with me, laugh with me or simply don't continue reading but I will continue to share. Thank you.

So we are almost one month into this 7 month deployment and talk about a humbling yet stressful experience. I have learned so much in such a short period of time.  Let me share some of what I have learned but more importantly what I am grateful for.

1. The most important thing I have learned is how much love a child has for a parent. Watching my daughter struggle with this situation has been heartbreaking but also humbling. I told my husband the second week he was gone that he should never doubt the love Isabelle has for him. Her little world truly revolves around him.

2. Tears are an acceptable way to get thru your day. Let it out and move on.

3. Gel glitter pens and cool coloring books are great ways to blow of steam and have great conversations with your children when they are struggling. They also add lots of color to their gray days.

4. I have learned to really pick my battles. For example, Isabelle was home sick on Friday and her and Ava come to me and ask if they can make their own snowflakes and of course I obliged. Awhile later I go down stairs to check on them and my whole living room was covered in snowflakes taped to the walls and furniture with green painters tape (apparently all they could find). Instead of being upset I was just grateful that they were smiling and it really did look beautiful in its own way.

5. Monday mornings are the worst, especially for Izzy. I don't know if its because its another week without dad or because we don't get to talk to him that often during the week due to the time difference. Maybe a combination of both. Pre-school activities usually involve either tears or her letting me know she isn't going to school, usually both.

6.  Some days its really hard to be positive. 200 days seems so daunting. People keep telling me that this will go by fast but it sure doesn't feel like it.

7. I really don't know how fellow military spouses/civilian spouses can do this more than once. You have my utmost respect.

8. As hard as I try, I am not dad. As much I as want to, I do not offer the security he does. And as much as it may hurt when my child pushes me away because I am not dad, I am learning its not personal, its just her way of dealing.

9. Between 8:25-8:40, as they are lying in bed they have what they call "chit chat" time. It seems to really help them. I don't listen to what they talk about, I feel its important that they have that time with each other.

10. Separation anxiety is real. Ava has been sleeping on Isabelle's floor since a couple weeks before Arnold left. It is the only way she sleeps good. Also, the girls will not go upstairs unless I am with them.

11. Isabelle never forgets to mark off a day on her deployment calendar. It is so important to her.

12. I am so truly grateful for my tribe. I have received so much support from so many people. Its not that I can't handle Arnold being gone, its just been a struggle watching my kids try to deal and I miss him. I have family and friends that are constantly calling and texting me to check on us. I cannot thank you enough for being there. It truly means the world to me.

13. I have been humbled by the realization that my husband  contributes so much in raising our children. Sometimes when they are home we often complain about what they aren't doing. Him being gone has made me appreciate him and his contributions to our family so much more.

I love my life and wouldn't change anything. Every experience is a lesson. I am grateful for this one. I am so proud of my husband and the sacrifices he is making for our country. He is a wonderful role model for our children. This is our life and though it may seem boring to some, its just our reality.  Thank you for reading.   ~Nicole

Enough is Enough.

Let me preface this by saying that the words expressed in this post are mine and mine alone. They are my opinion and my reality. Social media is the greatest thing and the worst thing. Its great because I get to stay connected to my "tribe" of people and share my life with them and vice versa. The reason I am writing this post because I witnessed a political conversation last night and I walked away from it feeling indifferent. I didn't sleep much last night because I couldn't shut my brain off from what was said during this conversation. It was laced with hatred, with name calling and implications were made that more than one person in my family is racist and homophobic.  With that said I am a white female married to a Mexican American. We have two daughters that are half white and half Mexican. My husband is currently serving in the United States Air Force. He has been serving for 14 years and will continue to serve until at least he hits 20. We both are Christian conservatives.

A lot of people these days say that the problems in this country are black and white. Well, in my world they are brown. Now you are probably thinking, you are a privileged white woman. What do you know about struggle or racism? Well, let me tell you. When I was a young girl, my parents were thrown out of the family business and onto the street. I remember being 9 years old and babysitting my three younger siblings because both my parents worked to provide for us. I saw the tears shed by my parents. I saw my dad leave and bike 25+ miles one way to work because we only had one vehicle. I saw the struggle, I lived it. So don't tell me I don't know what it is to struggle. What do I know about racism? On more than one occasion and in more than one state in this country we live in, I saw my husband get pulled over not because he broke the law but because of his skin color. I have witnessed the approach of the police officers when they came up to the window. I have heard the words and tone of voice used against my husband. That is until they learn he is in the military. Never in my life had I witnessed such atrocious behavior until after we were married. In these situations, he did everything he was told and did it with respect, not that they deserved it. And the change in their demeanor once they found out he was in the military, totally unbelievable. So you see, its not just a black and white problem. But the difference between him and everyone else is he doesn't let it dictate his attitude or the way he lives his life. You see he grew up on government assistance and witnessing domestic violence. He has witnessed what drugs and alcohol can do to someone. He had run ins with law enforcement when younger. Done things he is not proud of. He could have become something totally different than what he has become. But he made a CHOICE, a choice to be better than that. To make a great life for himself. He CHOSE to serve his country.

I asked my husband recently, "Growing up the way you did, did you ever feel oppressed?" His response "No." I asked "Why?" He said " Because my mom didn't raise me to be that way." It starts in the home. Its the way you are raised. No one is born racist. It is an attitude learned by those teaching you. I asked " Why aren't you bitter or upset by the way you've been treated?" He said "One of my favorite football coaches told me to always kill them with kindness, even if they don't deserve it. So that's what I've done and will continue to do. Was I upset, of course but I'm not going to let it dictate my life and how I want to be."

It is a choice you make. Whether you are afforded things or not, it is a choice. Not all black people are bad, not all white people are bad, not all police officers are bad, not all Hispanics are bad, not all Asians are bad. I don't care what color you are, what job you have, we all deserve love and respect and kindness. You may think that I am being naïve. But am I? Is it really that hard to be kind? I don't have to agree with your lifestyle or political views to love you. Some of my favorite people are gay and I don't love them any less because that is the way they choose to live their life. That is their right! I am in no place to judge them. Some of my favorite people are liberal. I don't love them any less because that is what they choose. Some of my favorite people are of a different color and I don't love them any less. But the hate and the name calling and the racism has got to stop. No one is better than anyone else. And the last time I checked no one is entitled to shit. You want something or to make a better life for yourself than you do what you have to do to achieve that. I am not responsible for anyone else's life. I have my own life and family to worry about. You want respect than afford me the same. We are raising our daughters to be kind no matter what, even if it isn't warranted. Our daughters know nothing about racism. They will eventually but for now we teach "To love thy neighbor, as thyself."

I am not a racist, I am not homophobic. I have my beliefs and you have yours. Just because they are not the same does not mean one is better than the other. IT is about respect and loyalty and love and kindness. I hope we all can get past the racism and hate at some point. It is a scary world we live in and yet life is beautiful. Love with all your heart and be kind.

Again, these are my thoughts and opinions. This is my reality. You don't have to agree with a damn thing I wrote, but I'll still love you. You can call me a racist or homophobic, but I'll still love you. And even if you decide you don't want to be my friend, I will still love you. That is my choice.

Let it go, Let it go

A few weeks ago, we were on a family walk and Isabelle was on her bike riding without training wheels, a newly learned skill. She was riding in front of us and she had gone a little ways ahead of us and I turned to my husband and asked why wasn't he going with her (knowing how protective he is) and he replied I am learning to let go a little bit. And I thought to myself, Wow, what a wonderful lesson learned. It got me thinking, how many times in life do we let go of the things we want to keep close and not let go of the things we need to?

I myself have been guilty of this. I have often let anger and resentment stir in my heart and mind over things that I don't have control of. Things that people have done to me or my family seem to just dig themselves in and I can't always let them go. In fact, I have gone to counseling to help me digest and expel the anger and resentment so I can get on with my life and be the best mother, wife, person I can be. Why is it this way? Human nature maybe, or maybe its just evil trying to bring us down. Either way it is a hard way to live and a hard thing to overcome. It can and will ruin relationships and those relationships will never be the same.

As a parent, Do you ever want to let go? NO! Why would we want to let go of  such innocent, precious, beautiful little creatures? Especially into this cruel world that we live in. Unfortunately, it is a necessary evil so that our children can be the best people they want to be. We would be doing our children a disservice if we didn't let them be who they wanted to be. That doesn't mean that as they grow that we won't be all up in their business, it just means that they need to learn to be independent and to learn through their own struggles.

Some days it is a real struggle to let go of the things I can't control. To not be able to change the way people treat me or my family. It is hard to let my daughter be independent and let her make her own decisions but I have learned from counseling and prayer and my beautiful family that I need to just let go of the good and the bad. Life is too short!

As annoying as this is, if you listen to the lyrics of the Let IT GO song from the movie Frozen it really does have a deeper meaning.

Let it go, Let it go
And I'll rise like the break of dawn
Let it go,  Let it go
                                        The perfect girl is gone

                                             Here I stand
                                          In the light of day
                                        Let the storm rage on,
The cold never bothered me anyway!

As we rounded a corner, Isabelle was even farther down and as she tried to turn around to ride back to us she lost control and went down. As my husband took off towards her, the lesson was two-fold. Not only had he let go a little but Isabelle learned that she will fall down but the key is to brush herself off and get right back on and keep riding. And that is exactly what she did. SO thank you my dear husband for the gentle reminder to just let go.

Best Day Ever...

I like to think of myself as a deep thinker. I am always looking for a deeper meaning during experiences that I have being a mother, wife, daughter, sister, friend. I believe there are moments in our life where Heavenly Father reminds us of how much we are loved. This is one of those experiences.

This past Saturday evening we went Blueberry picking. As we were driving, Isabelle could not wait to get there. Her excitement was overflowing. Are we there yet? must have been asked at least 100 times in the 45 minute drive. Once we got there, we got our gallon buckets and headed to the 15 acres of blueberry trees. The weather was perfect.

We got out of the car and off we went. It was so very quiet. It WAS wonderful!
So Isabelle chose a row and we started picking blueberries. She kept saying its so beautiful, its so beautiful. And it truly was.

So tree after tree we picked. All I could hear was my sweet 4 year old in her deep voice asking how are you doing dad/mom and an occasional grunt from our sweet Ava. At some point during the picking in a loud, full of excitement voice Isabelle said "This is the best day ever".
In that singular moment I felt peace. Wonderful words to hear from your child. We weren't doing anything extravagant or expensive. We were just together. I was overcome with emotion and the sweet spirit. Out of the mouth of babes come words so filled with love and appreciation that it can instantly change a person. When I get bogged down with ridiculousness, it is often my daughters that lighten things that are so dark. This moment was so very special for me. There are not enough words to describe my feelings.  Even as I write this, there are tears, how lucky I am to have the life that I do. To have my husband and my children. It is times like these that I understand why I was given the children I was. Things that I never would have thought twice of before, my daughters bring to light often. The simplicity in life... what a wonderful lesson to learn from my daughter.

I am so grateful that we had the opportunity to do this. I was not expecting to get out of it what I did. Its funny how that happens. What a truly wonderful experience.

So to my dear, sweet, loving Isabelle, IT WAS THE BEST DAY EVER!

I love being a mother.

The moment a child is born, The mother is born also. She never existed before.
The woman existed, but the mother, never. A mother is something absolutely new.
                                                                                   ~Rajneesh

Now that I am a mother of two I feel like I wasn't really a MOTHER until I had Ava. Looking back having one baby is a breeze but two or more presents quite the challenge sometimes. This has given me ample time to reflect on how much of an impact a mother has on her children, no matter the age. And how much of an impact a child has on a mother. I feel deeply blessed with my own children, to be able to give birth and raise them how my husband and I see fit. I know many times you second guess yourself as a mother, thinking your not doing enough or your doing too much! You think you are the protector of your children and yet many times I find that my daughters are the protectors of me. I never imagined what my children would teach me....how much they would change me for the better.

I feel that all the good there is in the world is wrapped into my 4 year old daughter. She amazes me everyday with her beauty and kind heart. One of my favorite moments is waking her up or when she wakes me up...she always has a smile on her face...so my day is already starting out wonderfully.
She often sees the beauty in me when I don't see it in myself...she will come into our room after I have finished getting ready and with such sincerity tell me "you look beautiful"! I often choke back emotion because no matter how I feel she makes me feel beautiful.
She always sees the beauty in everything. She loves flowers and we are always going to the garden section of stores to get new flowers for our house. She loves airplanes and every time she sees one, its like she is seeing one for the first time. I wish I could look through her eyes for one minute to see her view of the world...it truly is amazing.

Heavenly Father sure brings things full circle when he blesses you with children. Ava is so much like me. She is such a sweet spirit. Her smile is so contagious. You can't help but smile back. One of the most rewarding parts of being a mother is the bond between my daughters. It seems the age between them doesn't at all matter. Once Ava became mobile she has always been on the heels of her sister. The smiles and the way Isabelle can get her to laugh. Is there anything greater when it comes to being a mom?

There aren't enough prayers to say or ways to say Thank You to my Heavenly Father for blessing me with such sweet, loving little girls. I know in my heart that the time between my daughters was how it was supposed be. Things are as they should be.

Happiness is.....?

As we are now in the New Year one of my resolutions is to put my thoughts on paper(or blog). Kind of like a public journal. I know this is our family blog but I share most of our life on Facebook. I love to write so why not put fingers to keys and type away. Now before I get started all my thoughts are in relation to me and if I am talking about someone else I will be specific. This is in no way meant to offend anyone but if that happens I apologize in advance.

"The most important thing is to enjoy your life - to be happy - it's all that matters.
                                                                                                   - Audrey Hepburn
What is happiness? I often try to define this word but I have come to the conclusion that there is no one definition. My happiness is obviously going to be different than someone elses. Another resolution this year is try to be happy everyday..doesn't have to be all day but I want to feel happiness everyday. Maybe that sounds absurd but there are so many good things still left in this world and I want to look at those things and smile. Happiness isn't just something that is there I believe it is something we have to earn.
"Happiness is not something ready made. It comes from your own actions. -Dalai Lama

(My back story) My journey to happiness: As soon as I graduated high school I moved to Arizona....where I was going to school full time and working full time and in between going to church. One day I decided I didn't want to go to church anymore and made some decisions that were not good for me. My family cut ties with me for a few years because they didn't like my decisions. But it wasn't their life to live.. it was mine. As I went down this dark path, I soon learned how unhappy I was and there was no one there to help me out of this situation I had created. Long story..shortened...I married my husband and almost divorced in the first two years. After a separation and marriage counseling, and a move to Japan....I(we) finally got to a happy place. Now I look back on my situation not wanting pity or sympathy. I look back thinking if things had not gone the way they were supposed to I would not be where I am today. Married going on 8 years to a wonderful man and being able to have a beautiful daughter..both whom show me unconditional love everyday. My bad actions will not go unpunished! I know that with happiness comes every other emotion or feeling...disappointment, anger, sadness, etc...
"Be believing, be happy, don't get discouraged. Things will work out." -Gordon B. Hinckley

My happiness is seeing my daughter smile, seeing my husbands boots by the door. Hearing my daughter sing along in the car...knowing I am being taken care of forever. Being able to go for a run. Being a mother. Being a wife. Being alive.

I know there are bad things in this world and they will always be there. We each have our own battles but let us not forget that through the bad we can have the good. Heavenly Father knows us all and is there to guide us all to a better place.

"I, not events, have the power to make me happy or unhappy today. I can choose which it shall be. Yesterday is dead, tomorrow hasn't arrived yet. I have just one day, today, and I'm going to be happy in it." -Groucho Marx

My closing thoughts, I once read that for every minute you are mad, you lose sixty seconds of happiness. May we all look for the good things in life. I know that can be hard at times but knowing we have a loving God can help us achieve our own happiness, whatever that may be.
                                                                                   May we all be happy,
                                                                                             Nicole

Friends are Gods way of taking care of us....

I guess the older I get the more I feel the need to weed out those people in my life that do not bring any meaning or happiness to me or my family. Whether it be friends or family I feel like I don't need unnecessary drama. And yet at the same time I want to help them see the good things in life. It is a constant struggle for me. It's like you make that good connection with a new friend and then you find out they are the opposite way after awhile. After years of feeling like there is something wrong with me I am coming to realize that I can't be responsible for others behavior. You can offer to help them but that doesn't matter if they aren't going to accept it. I feel that people just fly by in life without knowing true friendship and they lose so much out of life. There are some people I just don't understand.....

Being a military spouse and being uprooted every few years, I have had my fair share of friends come and go mostly out of cattiness and ignorance. But I also feel that every person that comes in or out of my life teaches me something new. I know it is Heavenly Fathers way of keeping me on my toes. So in a weird way I am grateful for them. I often talk to my husband about how I struggle with these feelings and he offers advice, love and support. I wish I lived closer to those that are close to me but that isn't the case but that is ok because I know they will remain close. I know many women struggle with the same issues I do. I just wanted to share my feelings. I am so very grateful for the wonderful friends I do have (even though they live far away) and my beautiful family that I thank God for everyday of my life.

"Gratitude unlocks the fullness of life. It turns what we have into enough, and more. It turns denial into acceptance, chaos to order, confusion to clarity. It can turn a meal into a feast, a house into a home, a stranger into a friend. Gratitude makes sense of our past, brings peace for today, and creates a vision for tomorrow."

My hope for those that I come in contact with is that they find happiness and friendship in their lives. Life is too short for negativity or drama and we all need to not take for granted what God has given us. Love you all!! ~Nicole

The life of a two year old.....what a sweet time it is!

I am loving the age that our beautiful Isabelle is at because to her all the small things matter! For her its the excitement of going potty on the big girl potty, seeing birds flying in the sky, seeing the blue water (or agua as she says), going to the bx or walmart, watering the flowers in our garden. For us its seeing the joy in her eyes as she enjoys the small things in life. I don't think I have ever felt so rewarded in my life as I am now as a mother. To have a being love you and trust you unconditionally is just so amazing. I am in awe of what a beautiful child we are blessed with. Heavenly Father was sure looking out for us when he sent us Isabelle. She is such a special little girl in our life. I don't even remember what life was like before her....how did I stay busy during the day...I don't even know. Anyways, I just want to share some pictures of recent out and abouts!

So much has changed...

So it has been such a long time since I have written but with good reason....WE MOVED!! We are now stationed at Eglin AFB, Florida! We wanted to buy a house when we got here but this is not the area in which we want to settle down in so we are living in a cute two bedroom house on base! So between the organizing, packing, moving half way around the world(AGAIN) unpacking, painting, reorganizing it has been a busy 9 months! But we are finally settled and getting to know this place.

So I know alot of you don't know but I have been having some health issues for a little over  a year now. I was first diagnosed with irritable bowel syndrome a year ago due to stomach issues and abdominal pain so after seeing 4 doctors and an ER visit (got to love military medicine)  I thought that this was the answer to what I had been dealing with....come to find out not so much! So after I was diagnosed I started exercising regularly..changed my diet drastically..was put on medication..things got better but I still wasn't at 100% but not wanting to deal with the doctors at Kadena and with the move coming up I sucked it up and kept moving forward. So fast forward to when we get here to Florida...I started feeling really bad again and went into the ER and they diagnosed me with a really bad IBS flare up..gave me meds and sent me home....went back 2 weeks to the day...was admitted for appendicitis. SO after I went home I called and made an appointment with my Primary Care doctor.
So last week I went to my appointment and I was telling him everything that I have dealt with and that I have had pain everyday for the past year and that I don't think its IBS. I told him I want to figure this out because we have planned to have another baby. This is something we have wanted for awhile!
So after talking with him for an hour and a half he gave me an honest answer....

He doesn't think I have IBS and is running some more tests to figure it all out and then told me something I didn't want to hear...
He diagnosed me with depression again......all I could do was cry....He said that with everything I have been dealing with this year that I slipped down that hole again...so he advised that I go on an anti-depressant for a year which means NO BABY for right now...too many risks!  I cried all the way home blaming myself for letting it happen again. Why does this awful condition follow me everywhere? Why didn't I see the signs? I want another child so bad and now I have to wait another year? I felt awful as I told my husband what the doctor had said and as he embraced me and told me it was going to be OK I felt hope that I could get through this. For the rest of the day I cried and tried to reason with myself that it wasn't my fault. The doctor said this is hereditary and that I might have to deal with this again at a later time which doesn't exactly excite me! Now I know that this may not be a big deal to some but for someone to tell me that I can't have something because of me makes me feel awful! Depression is a serious condition and without the proper treatment is hard to deal with. Now I am not nearly as bad as I was before.. I can see why the doctor diagnosed me....My body needs to rest and get right so I feel like myself again....I would rather be at 100% than at 50%! So this past week I have come to terms that I just need to accept this and move on....Everything happens for  a reason.. We can try for a baby in a year.

I am looking forward to the new year to get better. I will take what I learned last time and just push forward. God has a plan for me and when he thinks we are ready we will have another child. I am grateful for my family and all of my dear friends and the support they give me! I'll just keep moving forward....

Standing among the Silent Ranks...

Having a conversation with a newly found friend about being a military wife got me thinking about the past 6 years being married to my Air Force husband. What an honor it has been for me to stand next to my husband and support him in protecting our freedoms. I feel so blessed and grateful for the opportunities I have been given and experienced while being with him. I could not imagine my life any way!

So being a newly married military spouse I found it diffucult to adjust as many do. Our husbands endure long work hours, unexpected departures and long TDY's and deployments and we just take it and deal with it. It took me a little bit but I found my niche and did my wife duties as best I could. We found a great group of friends there(there being Holloman AFB, New Mexico), many of whom we still keep in contact with. SO when we got orders to come here to Okinawa I was sad to leave our friends and family and end that chapter of our life but excited to start a new one! So we get here and get settled in and suddenly I felt sad and alone. My husband tried to help me and comfort me but he just didn't understand. I fell into a deep deep hole and didn't know how to pull myself out. Because of my sadness we started having more and more arguments and finally my husband said enough. We started counseling for us, I went for myself and I was put on an anti-depressant. As I think back to that time it brings me to tears because I had never experienced that before and I never want to again. I thought that it would be like it was at our last base and people would embrace us but it was the opposite. The women were judgmental and cruel. I couldn't find anyone that could relate to what I was going through.  I lost a part of myself and became very insecure. I am ashamed that I let them get to me..I should have been stronger! My husband was the only one who knew what I was going through, I didn't even tell my family because I knew they wouldn't understand.

The reason I am telling my story because I hope that others out there know they are not alone. It is very hard to be in a new place and not know anyone. Three years later and I am just now starting to find myself again. I have surrounded myself with a few amazing fellow military spouses and they really bless my life everyday. Being a military wife has brought so much more to my life and I would never give up this lifestyle. I have learned to keep my head up and push along. I feel honored to stand next to my Airman!

When God Created the Military Wife
When the Lord was creating a military wife He ran into His sixth day of overtime. An angel appeared and said, "You're having a lot of trouble with this one. What's wrong with the standard model?"
The Lord replied, "Have you seen the specs on this order? It has to be completely independent but must always be sponsored to get on a military installation. It must have the qualities of both mother and father during deployments, be a perfect host to 4 or 40, handle emergencies without an instruction manual, cope with flu and moves all around the world, have a kiss that cures anything from a child's bruised knee to a husband's weary days, have the patience of a saint when waiting for its mate to come home and, have six pairs of hands."
The angel shook her head slowly and said, "Six pairs of hands? No way." The Lord answered, "Don't worry; we will make other military wives to help. Besides, it's not the hands that are causing the problem, it's the heart. It must swell with pride, sustain the ache of numerous separations while remaining true, beat soundly even when it feels too tired to do so, be large enough to say 'I understand' when it doesn't, and say 'I love you', regardless.
"Lord," said the angel, gently touching His sleeve. "Go to bed. You can finish it tomorrow." "I can't," said the Lord. "I'm so close to creating something quite unique. Already it can heal itself when sick, on a moment’s notice it will willingly embrace and feed total strangers who have been stranded during a PCS move and it can wave goodbye to its husband understanding why he had to leave."
The angel circled the model of the military wife very slowly. "It's too soft," she sighed.
"But tough," the Lord said excitedly. "You cannot imagine what this being can do or endure."
"Can it think?" asked the angel. "Can it think?! It can convert 1400 to 2 p.m.," replied the Lord.
Finally the angel bent over and ran her finger across the cheek. "There's a leak," she said. "I told you that you were trying to put too much into this model." It's not a leak," said the Lord. "It's a tear." "What's it for?" asked the angel. "It's for joy, sadness, pain, loneliness and pride." "You're a genius," said the angel.
Looking at her somberly, the Lord replied, "I didn't put it there."

The not so skinny girl...

Before I get started I am going to start a 30 day photo challenge. So before every blog I will be showing a new photo challenge!

Day 1: A picture of yourself with five facts:

1:I love to run!
2:I am afraid of balloons...absolutely hate them!
3:I live in Japan!
4:I have been married for 6 years!
5:I love to read!

"If you don't do what's best for your body, you're the one who comes up on the short end."

I have always known that I will never be a skinny woman. I have come to terms with this fact. My husband says he married me for my curves, yah whatever!  Now it has been 18 months since I had my baby and I am still not down to what I was before I got pregnant, but I have come to terms with this too. I know my body will never be the same.
Weight was always an issue when I was growing up, maybe that was because my mom was a personal trainer. I always felt like I was the chunky girl and I was never comfortable with my body until I graduated highschool and had time to really focus on healthy eating habits and everyday workouts. My weight has fluxuated over the years but I have always seemed to start running and I lose it all. However this time has been so different.
My husband always tells me how good I look but I don't ever see that. Even at 27 I am so insecure about the way I look..and the funny thing is that when I look back on when I was teenager I was so SKINNY compared to what I am now. It is amazing how you see yourself when you look in the mirror.
SO on my new journey I am learning that I need to let go of my insecurites. I have joined weight watchers and exercise daily not necessarily for weight loss(thats always a plus) but just so I can be healthy for myself and more importantly for my wonderful husband and beautiful daughter!
My ultimate goal is to be comfortable in my skin...I need to learn to be comfortable in what I was given!

What have I done for myself lately?

As I sit back and think on the last 6 years of my life I can't help but be grateful and feel so blessed for so many things. An amazing husband who is everything I wanted and more in a man. A beautiful daughter who loves me unconditionally and makes me smile everyday. Supportive parents and siblings. An oppurtunity to live on a beautiful island. Being financially stable. So what is missing? At first glance...it would seem nothing.

So lately I have been trying to figure out what things are missing in this whole equation of life. ME! Amongst all the dinners, house cleaning, changing diapers and toddler talk I have forgotten me. I can't remember the last time I had ME time. How can I be a better wife or mother if I haven't taken care of myself? I worry about everything and everyone else but myself.

And GOD! I have left him out of my life for so long that I have forgotten what it is like. How can I be a better wife or mother if I don't have a relationship with GOD? It's not that I don't believe I just haven't practiced any kind of religion for a long time. What kind of example am I for my daughter?

As I ponder these two issues, I have some major changes to make. I need to make myself better physically, mentally and spiritually. I would like to share my thoughts on my journey to a better me. Aswell as dealing with everyday issues as a mother and wife! I hope others out there can relate to what I am going thru.

There are so many instances where I think how lucky I am to have the life I do. My goal is to build on that happiness and to become someone better! My family is my life and I wouldn't have it any other way. I want to be a better me for them!
